Again, the Osprey Memorial Foundation would like to formally thank each and every one of you for your support and dedication in helping us make a dream come true. With your help, we raised $85,000.00 to design, develop, and erect our monument on the grounds of the National Museum of the Marine Corps, in Quantico, Virginia. We really did it and we cannot thank you enough for reaching out to us and giving so kindly. From the pictures (click to enlarge) you can see that we were good stewards of your donations. The monument cost approximately $75,000.00 and the monument dedication was another $10,000.
On May 31st 2008 we formally dedicated our monument with nearly 250 family and friends in attendance. After closing to the general public, the National Museum of the Marine Corps opened its doors to us for a most fitting environment for the dedication. “Homeland,” the band that created the song “The Few, The Proud, With Wings” (a song written to honor our lost loved ones) flew up from Birmingham, Alabama to perform. A flight of two MV-22's flew over the monument twice, once in helicopter mode followed by airplane mode. The Marine Corps Institute provided full support to include an element of the Quantico Marine Corps band. Lt. Col. Jim Schafer and Col. John Torres (former MV-22 test pilots and personal friends of our lost loved ones) spoke about the MV-22 test team and of their close bond in comparison to that of a tactical squadron. They also spoke of the progress the MV-22 has made and the use of this aircraft in Iraq (as of then a squadron had completed a successful first deployment to Iraq and back). The President of the Marine Corps Institute (Major Gen. Gardner) and the President of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation (Lt. Gen. Christmas) also spoke at the dedication and welcomed our monument to be placed into the Memorial Park on the grounds of the National Museum of the Marine Corps.
Every dollar of every donation has been entered into our ledger and the list of individuals and organizations is extensive. Every donation of time and money mattered and we are dearly blessed that you supported our cause. The Osprey Memorial Foundation would like formally say THANK YOU by use of this website.
